Baldur's Gate 3 has 11 species, from human to drow to dragonborn, but with how extensive Dungeons & Dragons is, it was only inevitable that some fan-favourites wouldn't make the list.
Modders have added over 50 new species, so if you're playing on PC, you can expand your options exponentially right now.
Fans on the subreddit have been discussing all of the species who didn't make the cut that they want to see added to the game, starting with the grung.
They're humanoid frogs who are split into different categories depending on their colour - for instance, green grung are warriors, red ones are scholars, and purple ones are supervisors. Plenty of options for subspecies.
Another popular pick is the kobold, of which there are three in Baldur's Gate 3 - Bugthimble, Koll, and Popper. They're distant relatives of dragons, hence their similar skull shape and scales. But what makes them really interesting in play is that they're well-versed in traps and ambushes, which would be an incredible way to freshen up combat on a new playthrough.
Goblins are also one of the more highly requested choices (I wrote about how much they'd add to the game last year). We get to play as a druid, tiefling, and drow, so adding a goblin species into the mix would make all the major parties of Act 1 playable. Just imagine trying to get into the Emerald Grove, it's hard enough as a drow.
Of course, we can't ignore the tabaxi. They're humanoid cats who were carted to Faerûn during the slave trade. After escaping, they made their home in the Chult jungles (which we even visit in-game).
There are over a hundred comments on the post, so there are plenty of picks right now. These are just some of the highlights:
Larian Studios did say in an interview last year that "we're not saying no" to adding new species, so maybe fans will get their wishes one day. But with the developer now busy on two new games--and with no DLC planned--we might have to wait for Baldur's Gate 4.
