A Minecraft player has created a mod that enhances the effects of explosions to make them seem more realistic. Minecrafthas long been a game that fans have modded with dozens of different additions or tweaks, changing the game however they like. Mods have been such a deep part of the Minecraft community on PC that some have even inspired features in the full game, like the recipe book.
The Minecraftmodder, OppenMiner Dev, has been developing an explosion mod since their first YouTube video about it six months ago. The mod has yet to be released to the public, as the developer states in some of their videos that it will be released once it’s further along in development. The mod, called OppenMiner, will also include a dynamic nuclear wasteland that will evolve around the player’s nuked area. Fans of Fallout might find similarities to how nukes change the environment in Fallout 76.
On May 3rd, the YouTube channel of OppenMiner Dev posted a video update showcasing improvements to the explosion effects of the mod. The explosions within the video seem highly realistic for something within Minecraft. The video titled, “I turned the Explosion Effects up to 11 | OppenMiner Dev v0.2.1," is the ninth update video in the channel's history. Even after nine updates, the mod has yet to be released to the public. It’s yet to be revealed if this mod affects the explosions of Creepers, which are more powerful than TNT.
The mod also includes ballistic missiles and custom sound effects for the game. Shown off in a video on March 22nd, titled “Minecraft Ballistic Missiles — Incendiary Explosions & Sound Engine | OppenMiner Dev v0.10,” multiple ballistic missiles bombard a Minecraft city with impressive use of incendiary effects. The sound engine included calculates the speed of sound, reverb, and dampens the explosion's audio from a distance. Players can use these missiles to clear out mobs, similar to how a creative Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player built a missile to
