Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco have announced that Little Nightmares III will no longer be released this year and has been delayed until an unspecified date in 2025.
“As much as we can’t wait for you to return to the Nowhere, we also want to make sure we give the game the care and love it deserves. Quality is a top priority for us, and we know you feel the same way,” reads a statement posted on Twitter.
“We’ll be sharing more about Little Nightmares III later this summer, so please bear with us and look forward to further updates.”
Supermassive Games have taken over development duties from Tarsier Studios for this third instalment. Trapped within the Spiral, a cluster of “disturbing places”, Low and Alone will have to work together to survive in a dangerous world full of delusions and nasty things lurking around in the shadows. Whilst the game continues the themes of “eww”, “yuk”, and “bork” found in the first to games it is set in a completely different location, Nightmares 1 and 2 were set in The Maw.
The game will be playable from end to end in online co-op mode, or if you prefer you can play solo and have an AI companion help you out.
In our Little Nightmares II review, I said, “It’s rather obvious, but if enjoyed the first Little Nightmares then you will enjoy the Little Nightmares II. While some new elements have been added it is more of a next chapter to the story than a full blown sequel. The attention detail is incredible, bringing the story to life without a single spoken word. It’s unsettling, creepy, darkly amusing, and at times a little frustrating, but immensely enjoyable. Another little, slime covered gem from Tarsier Studios.”
Little Nightmares III is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
