One talented Sonic the Hedgehog fan recently recreated the iconic loop-de-loop from Green Hill Zone in cake form. The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has allowed players to speed through countless memorable locations over the years, but the original Green Hill Zone remains one of the most remembered and revisited levels in the franchise. This colorful oceanside paradise was the very first level of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game and set the tone for the rest of the series thanks to its bright visuals, catchy theme music, and signature loop-de-loops.
Subsequent Sonic the Hedgehog games would pay tribute to Green Hill Zone in various ways, like having their own opening levels set in similar locations. Later entries like Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania would return to Green Hill with updated graphics or courses, and the level has been referenced in tie-in media like Sonic Prime and the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film series. Green Hill Zone was also made into a Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO set in 2022, roughly a year after original Sonic composer Masato Nakamura released a new version of the level’s background music with lyrics.
Reddit user Goblin_au recently made a Sonic the Hedgehog-themed cake for their five-year-old child in the shape of Green Hill Zone’s famous loop-de-loop, complete with palm trees, floating Power Rings, and a figure of the Blue Blur himself as he races toward his next adventure. The bottom of the cake is chocolate, with a chocolate ganache and raspberry filling, the icing is buttercream, and the loop is made of Rice Krispies and marshmallows. Everything is edible except for the Sonic figure, though Goblin_au says that the gold paint on the Rings tastes bad.
