Yes, it's exciting that you're on vacation. No, your friends don't need to see a photo for every time you put your toes in the sand, toast with your friends, or don a particularly attractive outfit.
One in three Americans say vacation photos can be annoying, according to a new survey(Opens in a new window) by Planetware. People go as far as to say they "hate" particular types of content, including sexy or flirty photos to gain attention, also known as thirst traps (55%); vacation countdowns (54%); culturally insensitive photos (48%); and yoga posts (40%).
Most respondents say they know someone who makes vacation posts just to show off (55%) and admit to having felt jealous of others' posts (53%).
Of course, this doesn't mean you can't post from your vacation, but keep in mind that certain types of content might not get the positive reception you're expecting. In fact, nearly one in five Americans say they have unfollowed or muted someone for posting too many vacation photos. The most annoying vacation posts: daily status updates (61%).
So, what do the haters want? Helpful content that might inform their next vacations. Respondents say they appreciate posts showing must-do activities in specific cities and destinations (70%) and when others share what they regret doing on vacation, so they can avoid making the same mistakes (44%).
Yet many Americans also admit to posting the same types of content for which they criticize others. For example, 21% of people say they hate other peoples' photos taken from plane windows, but 25% have posted a similar picture themselves.
