The Tokyo Game Show is one of the most important industry events in the calendar, with the Japanese games expo having a firm place in history as it's seen so many big announcements and memorable characters in its long run. And in 2022, the Tokyo Game Show will be back as a physical event for the first time in three years.
The event will run from September 15 to 18 in Chiba, Japan – with the first two days open to business visitors only, before opening to the wider public for the final two days. TGS's official language is Japanese but live English interpretation is also available to guests. The event will be held at one of Japan's largest convention centres, the Makuhari Messe, as in previous years.

Last year's TGS was a hybrid affair, with online and in-person events and activities, but for 2022 the emphasis is definitely on physical and in-person as it unveils the theme for this year: 'Nothing Stops Gaming'.
This isn't to say that the organisers haven't learned from the experience of having to hold the hybrid shows, as TGS 2022 will have demos that are playable from home, as well as VR interaction, and a virtual tour. TGS was held as a fully online event in 2020, and was a hybrid online and business-only physical event in 2021.
"Over these two years, various fun events disappeared from our daily life, but games still lightened up our days," The Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association said, in announcing TGS. "Games will continue to brighten up the days of everybody now and forever – this year's theme implies such strong determination".
