The good news just keeps coming for FromSoftware, as Elden Ring tops the US sales charts for February and the year as a whole.
Elden Ring has already been proclaimed the fastest-selling game of the year so far in the UK, but it’s now repeated the same trick in US – and become the best-selling game of the whole year as well.
The latest monthly US sales results, which are measured by revenue not unit sales, puts Elden Ring ahead of Horizon Forbidden West, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, and Total War: Warhammer 3 – all of which, except for Pokémon, are new entries, in what has been the busiest February for new releases in recent memory.
Elden Ring is not only already the best-selling game of 2022 but the fifth best-selling of the last 12 months (the other games, obviously have had much longer to accrue their totals).
To add to its list of achievements, Elden Ring’s launch was bigger than any other game in the US in 2021 or 2022, with the exception of Call Of Duty: Vanguard.
It wasn’t an entirely clean sweep for Elden Ring though, as it was outsold by Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation consoles – although that didn’t make a big enough of a difference to stop it from getting to number one overall.
Elden Ring has also topped the charts in Japan and is currently the sixth most popular game of all time on Steam, with a concurrent peak of over 950,000.
Despite its success Elden Ring had little influence over hardware sales, as the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console of the month, with the Xbox Series X/S in second place and PlayStation 5 in third.
Given the ongoing stock problems though you shouldn’t draw too much from next gen console sales until they’re easy to acquire for everyone.
