A fan has realized that the Swablu and Altaria cards from the 2023 set tell a wholesome story. The expansion focused on the generation of Pokémon and included Pokémon from both the past and the future, along with some new illustrations of fan-favorite cards from other generations. Among these were two beautiful full-art rare illustrations by artist Kiro Sasumo that go hand-in-hand.
The connection between the two cards was noticed by SteeloAndKri on X and shared to Reddit by maxmaytho. The Swablu card shows the small blue bird looking directly at the player with its cute beady eyes as it perches on a step surrounded by Wingulls. In the full-art evolution, Altaria ex appears soaring above the clouds and water. A closer look at the illustration reveals the Wingulls are still sticking close to their old friend, even in its evolved form.

This isn't the first time that a card or a set of cards in the has shared a story beyond the obvious illustration. The Ditto card, for instance, has not a single Ditto in sight and instead features a herd of Numels.
