As players complete the Troll Heritage Armor questline, their focus is squarely on the Darkspear tribe and the Loa they worship. While the Darkspear declare new additions and returning Loa to their Pantheon through the quest, many of these Loa are either foreign to players or entirely new, so we've decided to dig into the lore that we can find on these powerful spirits.
Bwonsamdi — the Loa of Death
While many know the Loa of Death from his appearances in Battle for Azeroth, veteran players met Bwonsamdi long ago on the Echo Isles, as they started their journeys through Azeroth as young Darkspear Trolls. In the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, during the events to reclaim the Echo Isles, players encountered this sassy Loa on the quest Zalazane's Fall. Here, Vol'jin, leader of the Darkspear, called upon the Loa of Death for aid in exchange for returning to the old ways and elevating the forgotten Loa back into the Darkspear Pantheon. The Darkspear have worshipped Bwonsamdi ever since.
Bwonsamdi yells: WHO BE STIRRIN' UP MY BONES? Dem Bwonsamdi's charges, and not ta be touched!
Vol'jin yells: I be Vol'jin, Son of Sen'jin, here to ask your aid, o great Bwonsamdi.
Bwonsamdi yells: I know who you are, shadow hunter. An' I know what ya WANT. But what makes you tink I'm gonna help YOU? Ain't a wise ting, callin' me from de Other Side...
Vol'jin yells: I ain't askin' for me alone, Great Spirit, but on behalf of da Darkspear Tribe… on behalf of me PEOPLE.
Bwonsamdi yells: Darkspear… it been a long time since I heard de drums… since I drank de ritual offereings. I be watchin' over your dead, Vol'jin, and for NOTHIN'. Why have de Darkspear forsaken Bwonsamdi, eh?
Vol'jin Yells: We were driven away, Great Spirit. Hexmaster Zalazane took de Isles from us… drove us mad, made us fight one another. De only trolls left in de Echo Isles are his mindless voodoo slaves.
Bwonsamdi Yells: Zalazane...
