Konami has announced the release date for its upcoming massively multiplayer Bomberman game.
As reported by Gematsu, the game will be released on September 13 in North America, and September 14 in Europe and Japan, with a physical release coming to North America on September 12.
The game will be released on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S. PS4, Xbox One and Steam.
A new trailer also gives more information on the game’s various modes, as well as confirmation that it will support cross-play.
As well as classic Battle mode, Super Bomberman R 2 will feature a Grand Prix mode where players “compete for crystals and KOs”.
It will also include Battle 64, a battle royale mode where up to 64 players can compete at the same time.
Its newest mode, however, is called Castle mode. This splits players into two teams, Attackers and Defenders. Attackers have to find keys and use them to unlock every treasure chest in the stage, while Defenders have to protect the chests.
Players can also create and share their own stages in Casdtle mode.
The game’s predecessor, free-to-play title Super Bomberman R Online, ended in December 2022.
At the time, Konami also assured players that the Bomberman series would continue despite the closure of the free-to-play game, promising something new would be revealed soon. This was a reference to Super Bomberman R 2.
“The Bomberman series is moving forward with new projects,” it said at the time. “We hope to be able to inform you of this project soon. Thank you for your continued support of the Bomberman series.”
