Final Fantasy XVI is one of the more anticipated titles releasing this year. The actual launch of the latest standalone title is still a ways off but today a dedicated PlayStation State of Play revealed some more details on what players can expect in the upcoming action RPG. Final Fantasy XVI is set in a dark fantasy world where mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them determine the fate of the land. The story follows the journey of the warrior Clive Rosfield who has sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix.
Some highlights of the State of Play broadcast include the new Hideaway advisors. The Hideaway is Clive’s base of operations and by talking to the historian Harpocrates he can learn about the history of Valisthea or view the relationship chart of characters by speaking with military scholar Vivian. Players can battle in a training mode in the Arete Stone in the Hideaway which can be useful in developing new ability combos or honing new skills. The Hideaway will also have Wanted Posters which players can use to hunt powerful monsters roaming the world. In addition to detailing some of the these features the broadcast, which can be viewed in full below, showcases new battle footage of Clive’s abilities and Eikon battles.
In addition to the gameplay detailed revealed in the State of Play it was revealed that popular singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu, famous for the record setting single Lemon, has been confirmed to perform the theme song Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing, the theme song for Final Fantasy XVI. A teaser video of the song can be viewed below. Final Fantasy XVI is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 on June 22.
