Star Wars Rivals Collectible Card Game Announced, Preorders Available This Week
Funko Games has unveiled its new collectible card game set in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars Rivals. Players will be able to join either the Light or Dark side of the Force when they select their cards, assemble a team pulled from the history of Star Wars, and battle one another to determine the fate of the galaxy.
«Create a squadron of iconic characters in an attempt to collect the most location cards and win against their opponent,» Funko's description for the game reads.
Each character has unique abilities, with location cards playing a key role in gaining a tactical advantage. You'll definitely want the high-ground advantage card.
A limited pre-release run of cards will be available through Star Wars Celebration (April 7-10), before the game arrives at Walmart on May 4, Star Wars Day, where it'll first be sold in limited quantities. A full rollout will then commence in June to Walmart and other retailers. The Premier Set includes the following items:
Booster packs will retail for $5, and while these can be used independently of the Premier Set, they're best for bolstering your established roster of heroes and villains. Each booster pack, which have Light and Dark side themes, includes a character-themed game mover from the current roster of 20 characters.
If you're lucky, you might even get a rare hologram character variant that has its own special power. Funko says that the full collection will feature cards with art that has never been seen before, which adds a collectible layer to Star Wars Rivals.
