A new compilation has hit the market with arcade hits from a company that isn’t SNK and Capcom, and yet provides a slew of fighting thrills. The IGS Classic Arcade Collection brings eight games across a few genres. Fans of brawlers will be in for a treat as well as this is loaded with three Knights of Valour games alongside two versions of Oriental Legend. Metal Slug fans will enjoy the animal-starring Demon Front that feels like an alternate universe Metal Slug game. The best overall game of the bunch of the Street Fighter 3-esqe Martial Masters.
Every game here is steeped in Chinese lore to some degree, but Martial Masters is still one of the most lavishly-animated 2D fighters ever. The collection includes the games themselves and save states, but does have a forced 16:9 viewpoint and a filter to blend the pixels together. It doesn’t look bad – but it isn’t the best overall way to play the games, so hopefully there will be an update that makes the filter optional and adds 4:3 with pillarboxed borders on the sides. At $29.99, it’s worth picking up if you want the games included – but a curiousity buy is best-served for a sale.
