Spotify Is Reportedly Launching a $20 'Supremium' Tier Soon
Spotify is reportedly planning a new tier for its subscription music service, a $20-a-month plan dubbed “Supremium.”
The plan will reportedly give users access to higher-quality music as well as playlist-mixing tools and expanded access to audiobooks. News of the plan was initially shared on Threads by hashtag creator Chris Messina.
Audio for plan subscribers will be “24-bit lossless audio,” also known as high fidelity or HiFi. Users will also receive a personalized “sound capsule” and be able to create playlists using AI or based on their current mood.
On the audiobook front, Supremium subscribers will gain access to 30 hours of audiobooks each month, enough to listen to roughly an hour each day. Earlier this week, Spotify announced that Premium users would get access to 15 hours of audiobook listening per month across 150,000 audiobooks
The plan appears to be a new name for Spotify HiFi, a tier announced by Spotify in February 2021 that never came to fruition. At the time, Spotify planned on charging more for access to HiFi audio. Shortly after the announcement, Apple Music and Amazon Music both began offering the service at no additional charge, perhaps forcing Spotify to delay the launch.
In July, Spotify raised the price of its current Premium plans from $9.99 to $10.99 per month.
