Concept art for Spider-Man: The Great Web has revealed that it would have let players create their own unique Spider-persona instead of just customising Peter, Miles, and Gwen.
Towards the end of 2024, Insomniac Games was unfortunately hit with one of the biggest hacks in gaming history, which resulted in 1.6 terabytes of data making its way around the internet. Not only did this leak a bunch of footage and information about Wolverine, but it also revealed the studio's plans for the next nine years, giving us a glimpse at what projects Insomniac is currently working on.
Although that hack revealed a bunch of upcoming games from Insomniac, it seems that not everything that was found in the data is going to end up releasing. One such cancelled project is Spider-Man: The Great Web, a cooperative multiplayer experience that would have let players swing around the city with friends and would have seemingly introduced Gwen Stacy to the Marvel's Spider-Man universe.
We already knew about The Great Web when Insomniac Games was first hacked at the end of 2023, but more information and footage of it has been being leaked out over the past few weeks. One trailer for the game showed Peter, Miles, and Gwen swinging around the city, causing some to believe that you could customise your own version of the characters, but it seems that it was going to go even further.
Over on the Insomniac Leaks subreddit, several pieces of concept art for The Great Web have been shared that give us an even better look at what the game might have been. Beyond revealing a version of Miles that looks very similar to his Into The Spider-Verse design, the concept art also confirms that the game would have featured a custom character creator.
