Skybound Games has just announced a brand-new AAA video game set in the Invincible comic universe. Alongside the unexpected reveal, the developers simultaneously launched a crowdfunding campaign with the aim of raising $5million towards the ambitious Invincible project.
Skybound Games formed in 2018 as a publishing division of Skybound Entertainment, the multi-platform entertainment company co-founded by David Alpert and Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible. Since then, they have produced several titles based on Kirkman’s acclaimed IPs. However, the announcement of an upcoming AAA Invincible title marks a strikingly different direction for the developer to take; Skybound Games’ previous efforts have focused on creating and distributing smaller titles, such as the idle mobile game Invincible: Guarding the Globe and the highly praised visual novel RPG Invincible Presents Atom Eve.
Although few details are known about thenew Invincible game, Skybound Games’ crowdfunding campaign lays out their vision for the ambitious sounding project. It reveals that “Skybound is developing a highly produced, high-octane blood bath that is anything but indie", and that the team behind the AAA title comprises 30 hand-picked developers with former experience working at industry giants such as Activision Blizzard, EA, and Epic Games. Invincible’sroster of extremely strong superheroes is perfectly suited to a more violent, action-packed superhero game, and the new title promises to deliver “competitive and local play modes” filled with “tons of action, stunning game and character design, and of course, a healthy dose of blood.”
Launched on April 15, Skybound Games’ crowdfunding campaign seeks to raise $5million towards the cost of developing the game. At the time of writing, the campaign has already raised over $440,000 – far surpassing their minimum fundraising goal of $50,000.
