PlayStation 5 Pro Compatibility Will Be Expected for Certification Starting This August
The PlayStation 5 Pro has yet to be officially unveiled, but it may release as soon as September 2024, judging from a report shared online today.
As reported by The Verge today, Sony is expecting every PS5 game submitted for certification from August 2024 to be compatible with the PlayStation 5 Pro. As such, the console should be expected to become available from that month, although it is way more likely to launch in the following months, as Sony has been launching new home hardware between September and November for some years. For the rest, The Verge's report includes information we have already heard about regarding the PlayStation 5 Pro specs, such as more powerful GPU, slightly faster CPU, better ray tracing, higher RAM capacity and bandwidth, and more.

While the enhancements it features are not as massive as some may have expected, the PlayStation 5 Pro couldn't be that more powerful than the base model for multiple reasons, including game development reasons, as it would be difficult for developers to scale up to a more powerful system in the middle of development. According to a veteran game developer, the console was designed to provide developers with easy and economical ways to implement enhancements in their games, such as the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler, whose implementation will likely be much easier than AMD FSR implementation.
