Fallout 4 launched its long-awaited next-gen update last month, but it went down about as well as a nuke in Boston. Not only did it break most mods, players immediately ran into a slew of old bugs.
So, Bethesda has rolled out "Next Gen Update 2", which introduces new graphics options for fidelity and performance.
You can read the full list of patch notes in the tweet embedded below.
While this newest patch fine-tunes the previous update and fixes a lot of the problems players had, there's still the mod-shaped elephant in the room. With each update, community add-ons break, and if you were already knee-deep in a modded playthrough, that likely means your save file is broken.
Alternatively, you can download a player-made next-gen update that was also released last month. It improves lighting, textures, weather, character models, enemy AI, and water, as well as the UI and audio.
Thankfully, fans took it upon themselves to create a mod that removes the next-gen update entirely. Dubbed "Fallout 4 Downgrader", this add-on rolls back Fallout 4 to its pre-patch state and allows you to continue using mods that require F4SE and Buffout. To install it, all you need to do is extract the zip file and run one of the .bat files.
Once you're done, you can go back to your old save file or load up a whole bunch of now-broken mods to customise your experience.
In a region known as The Commonwealth, the sole survivor of Vault 111 must search for their missing child. Fallout 4 adds more to the series, including base building and an enhanced armor system, as well as an open world to traverse as you please.
