The maternal figure of Christianity, Maria, is one of the most valuable Personas players can craft in .Unlike many of the personas in the game, Maria is not one you can expect to come across naturally while working through palaces, as she is only unlocked after completing the Faith Arcana with Yoshizawa.
Once Maria is unlocked, she will not be immediately gifted to you, as this only unlocks the ability to fuse her in the Velvet Room. Although Maria is valuable in just about any form, a couple of fusions can result in a truly game-breaking Persona since the ultimate fusion for Maria can produce a Persona that offers 100% healing during every turn.
There are 20+ Confidants in Persona 5 Royal and each one has their own unique way to unlock them including dates, locations, and conversations.
Unfortunately, Maria will not be valuable to you early on unless you're playing through New Game+ in and acquired her in your previous playthrough. This is largely due to the fact that the Faith confidant cannot be fully maxed out until late game as everything past Rank 5 for Yoshizawa is tied to a story event that will not occur until the third semester as part of the new content that Royal adds to the base game.
While these confidants are not technically part of the requirements for unlocking Maria, you will not even have the option to max out the Faith confidant and unlock Maria if the Justice (Goro Akechi) and Councillor (Takuto Maruki) confidants are not maxed out by the start of the third semester.
However, before you acquire her, it's important to ensure you've done everything else you need to accomplish so you can create the best fusion. Additionally, Maria is a high-level Persona, so Joker will need to ensure his level is high enough to be able to fuse her when the time comes. Since fusions predict which abilities will be inherited by the result, it's important to choose the best candidates to complete your fusion.
