Players can now register for the chance to participate in beta testing for World of Warcraft’s next expansion, The War Within.
Launching later this year, The War Within is the first of three World of Warcraft expansions announced at BlizzCon last November.
The Worldsoul Saga, which is described as an “epic story that celebrates the first 20 years of World of Warcraft and sets new foundations for Azeroth’s future”, will comprise of The War Within, Midnight and The Last Titan.
“You’ll journey through never-before-seen subterranean worlds filled with hidden wonders, earn the trust of the new Earthen allied race, and face an ancient evil lurking in the darkness when you sign up for the beta,” according to Blizzard.
“Players who have opted in can be selected to be testers, and invitations will go out regularly throughout the test,” it said.
In December, Blizzard released a 2024 roadmap for World of Warcraft content. At the time, it said The War Within was scheduled to launch in late summer or early autumn.
Whether that’s still the plan isn’t certain. According to today’s beta sign-up announcement, the expansion will be available on or before December 31, 2024.
Blizzard recently announced a release date for World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic.
A pre-expansion patch will be released on April 30, ahead of the launch of Cataclysm Classic on May 20.
As with World of Warcraft Classic, Burning Crusade Classic and Wrath of the Lich King Classic, the recreation of the game’s third expansion will be available to all players with an active WoW subscription.
