When Microsoft teased big changes to its Xbox business, rumors flew all over the place regarding potential first-party games for non-Xbox platforms. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 by Ninja Theory was reportedly one, and while nothing came of it, the company is reportedly considering a PS5 release, per a new report by The Verge’s Tom Warren.
However, Warren notes, “If that ever happens, at this point, it’s not clear if even that would be considered a success.” If it doesn’t perform well, one has to wonder about Ninja Theory’s fate, especially after Microsoft shut down Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks and Alpha Dog Studios while folding Roundhouse Studios into The Elder Scrolls Online team. It certainly doesn’t help that Ninja Theory’s last title, Bleeding Edge, under-performed significantly, with support ending less than a year after launch.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 launches on May 21st for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Its pre-launch marketing campaign will kick off this week, but in the meantime, check out its PC requirements here. Ninja Theory is also working on Project: Mara, an experimental horror title set in one location and offering photo-realistic visuals.
