Unlocking tools for gathering resources, including fishing, is equally important to stock up and prepare for runs. Unlocking fishing and the fishing pole tool isn’t difficult, but it does require a surprising amount of time and resources.
Merchants and vendors are a big part of. Characters like the Wretched Broker and other Shade merchants sell extremely valuable goods. Ashes, Bones, and other resources are necessary to gain other buffs, such as Arcana Cards. Fish are a great way to help gather the materials needed to make larger purchases. Although you can’t get through the Underworld with fish alone, it can be an overlooked part of the game.

To eventually unlock fishing,you must first unlock the Night’s Craftwork incantation. This is unlocked relatively early in the game by visiting the cauldron found in the Crossroads, where you respawn after each run.
The Night’s Craftwork incantation only costs one Moly to unlock, so you can access this incantation as soon as you first run through Erebus. After this, you can start unlocking tools at the training grounds, where you can interact with Schelemus and select your weapon for Melinoe before delving into Erebus.
