SMITE 2 has finally been released widely, albeit still technically in beta, bringing the free-to-play, bringing its roster of 45 playable Gods across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.
SMITE 2, which has been in its open beta period, today's update opens the floodgates to players across all platforms. SMITE 2's patch notes for today's launch went out last week, prepping players for what the free-to-play MOBA will bring today.
While the MOBA has been playable for a while, it required a purchase of an early adopter pack ahead of time. Thankfully, for those who have been waiting, SMITE 2 is following in its predecessor's footsteps and is now free-to-play on PC (via Steam or the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles. You can still buy these packs if you want the cosmetic goodies they bring, ranging from $30 to $100 (though, it should be noted they are all on a 25% off sale right now).
Alongside Aladdin, four other Gods were added to the roster, bringing the total launching with today's free-to-play release to 45, including Ullr, Mulan, and more. Aladdin is unique in that he is the first hero on the roster built from the ground up with SMITE 2 in mind, having been developed entirely using Unreal Engine 5.
Additionally, the 3v3 Joust mode was added with today's launch, bringing the smaller, more focused mode to SMITE 2. This also includes a new Arthurian flavored map, making the Joust game mode's name feel all the more apt today. The Joust mode sits alongside five other game modes SMITE 2 is launching with, including Duel, Assault, Conquest and more. Additionally, the MOBA launches with 20 Aspects, which can be used to change up how some Gods play, though it should be noted these are optional and not every God has a suitable aspect right now.
