Jujutsu Kaisen is, without any shadow of a doubt, one of the biggest manga and anime series on the planet right now. That’s why it’s so immensely disappointing that publisher Bandai Namco and developer Byking botched its first attempt at a video game adaptation. While anime arena brawlers are dime a dozen, there are good ones, like Demon Slayer; Cursed Clash, however, was a sloppy, shallow cash grab.
Still, the Japanese developer isn’t giving up. It’s announced a pretty huge update for the title, due out on 30th May. To begin, there’ll be two free characters, Mai Zen’in and Momo Nishinomiya, alongside a couple of additional maps and outfits. A further three free characters will follow in the future.
Salmon woe
If, for some reason, you want to spend more money on the game – or you were unlucky enough to plump up for the Deluxe Edition – a new scenario named Hidden Inventory / Premature Death will also deploy later this week, alongside three new premium characters: Satoru Gojo (Student), Suguru Geto (Student), and Toji Fushiguro. There’ll also be a bunch of different outfits and colour variants for each.
There’s no word on any actual improvements to the game itself, though, which felt undercooked at launch. “Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash is unfortunately cursed trash,” we opined in our review. “Its shallow, unsatisfying combat system fails to capture the balletic brilliance of the anime and manga’s striking skirmishes, and its disjointed single player campaign is unlikely to be enjoyed by franchise faithfuls or prospective new fans.”
