With the Janthir Wilds expansion coming August 20th, Guild Wars 2 is finally adding a long-requested community feature: in-depth player housing. ArenaNet has begun to peel back the curtain on Homesteads.
You won’t have to wait long after starting the Janthir Wilds content to gain access to your Homestead, as it will happen early in the campaign. The Guild Wars 2 team gavea new preview to PC Gamer, and there’s a new Homestead video reveal as well as details on the system.
Homesteads are instanced, which makes even more sense if it’s going to be a perk for expansion owners. There are no upkeep fees and you’ll be able to do what you want with them. You can display collections, skins, and more, and even leave your alts in your Homestead to gain rest bonuses while you play a different character. Yes, there will also be a stable for mounts.
With the arrival of Homesteads, the decorating system will be reworked and improved. You can move items, rotate and scale them, and even move items into or on top of each other and set them in the air if you want. The team is looking for flexibility here. Not only can you move things and place them in a variety of ways, once you place them, a modification menu will let you adjust what you’ve set down. If something needs a tweak or you need to turn it a little bit to fit better, you can.
This suite of tools will later expand to the guild hall system. For Homesteads though, and their extensive options, Janthir Wilds is a must. The team is planning more than 300 decorations when the expansion launches, and you will be able to craft new Homestead decorations via a brand new crafting profession. A new Homestead resource will require you converting items like plants or wood.
Ultimately, if you buy the expansion and you already have a home instance, resource nodes that you have will carry across to the new home. We can also expect new features to arrive in future updates, including an auto-collect feature that will gather every resource
