The forthcoming comedy feature stars Schwartzman as Ben, a cantor on the brink of losing his faith. As he struggles to live up to the expectations of his rabbi, congregation, and two Jewish mothers, things will take an unexpected turn when his grade school music teacher (played by Kane) enters the picture as his adult bat mitzvah student. Together, the two will be on their journey to find faith while they navigate their unlikely friendship along the way.
The official synopsis reads: “In the film, Ben is a forty-something cantor losing his voice and possibly his faith. Struggling to meet the expectations of his rabbi, congregation, and not one but two Jewish mothers, Ben finds his world turned upside down when his grade school music teacher re-enters his life as an adult bat mitzvah student. This warm and anxious comedy from prolific writer/director Nathan Silver explores the complexities of belief, connection, and what it means to be a real mensch,”
Between The Temples is produced by Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Nate Kamiya, Adam Kersh, and Taylor Hess. Executive producers are Schwartzman, Kane, David Darby, Lauren Shelton, and Joshua Blum.
Between The Temples hits theaters on August 23.
