This week, a brand new copy of Rolling Realms hit the office table for unboxing. Rolling Realms from Stonemaier Games is one of my favourite roll and write experiences. It’s simple to play, and brings together the concepts of dozens of board games to make an engaging and quick gameplay experience. “Realms” range from Stonemaier’s own games like Scythe, Between Two Cities, etc. but the company has also partnered with other games as well. In this box specifically, I’m excited to try Flamecraft, Meadow, Wonderlands War, and more!
The Redux version of Rolling Realms brings 12 more realms to the table, expanding the ever growing Rolling Realms universe. The larger sized box includes the 12 realms, cards for solo play, two brand new purple and pink marbled dice, dry erase cloths, and more. Ironically, the best part of the Redux release isn’t so much the brand new realms – although they are phenomenal – but the box it all comes in. Larger in size than the original, the new box can hold everything released for Rolling Realms to date, and the game also includes dividers so you can easily sort the cards by colour and have them nicely displayed within the box. A side compartment provides adequate space for all the dice, markers, cloths, and more.
Another cool addition to the Redux release is providing players with a small travel box. This travel box allows owners to store up to 50 cards, a few markers, and dry erase cloths so that they can take the game on the go. When I first saw that this was going to be included I was a bit skeptical, but as I pack for an upcoming vacation, I realized how much more efficient it was to bring that small travel box with a few realms as opposed to the entire box. It’s a minor edition, but such a valuable one.
It is worth noting, however, that if you own every realm currently available for the game, the travel box won’t actually fit inside the main box, unless you break it down and flatten it out to lay on top with the manuals. This could cause
