Netflix has canceled the anime action-adventure series before Season 2. The series premiered on the streaming giant on November 17, 2023, with an eight-episode-long first season.
Bryan Lee O’Malley, series co-creator and executive producer, took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that the series would not return with a sophomore season. O’Malley is also the writer-cartoonist behind the original Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series.
“It’s been one year since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off came out,” O’Malley wrote. “It was an honor to work with all of the cast & staff around the world. It was like conducting a symphony orchestra every day. From the moment [BenDavid Grabinski, series co-creator] sparked the idea, the project felt like a one of a kind miracle,” he added.
Anyway, we were recently informed that the show will NOT return. As you know, we only intended one season, and called in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more would have been nearly impossible. Still, I know some of you have been holding out hope. ???

While O’Malley mentioned that their intention was to develop only one season of the series, the ending of Season 1 hinted that there was more to come. Episode 8 has a mid-credits scene, in which we see Julie Powers and Gordon “Gideon Graves” Goose seemingly planning something nefarious against Scott and Ramona. While responding to a fan who shared a screenshot from this scene and asked what it was about, O’Malley wrote, “This is a happily ever after.”
