Dynamax Charmander is back as a Max Battle boss in and is featured as a Max Monday boss, where having a team of counters to take advantage of its multiple weaknesses makes things much more manageable. While the original Fire-type Kanto starter is anything as close to the difficulty levels of the 6-Star Gigantamax Raids, any regular Max Battle, even against base Pocket Monsters, can still take the unprepared by surprise. In this case, even if you consider yourself a pro, having an optimized team is better to have and not need it than not having it.
Charmander is joining returning bosses like Bulbasaur and Squirtle in the Max Mondays schedule this month, regularly featured in Max Battles since the mechanic was first introduced. This means Max Monday isn't as exciting as others introducing new Dynamax Pokémon like Krabby; it's still a nice chance to get extra rewards or a more powerful Charmander to add to your arsenal. Nevertheless, the Lizard Pokémon will do its best not to make any battles this Max Monday easy, so be cautious if you plan to take this one on solo.
Because it is a pure Fire-type, Dynamax Charmander has the same weaknesses in its Max Monday Max Battle in as in its standard form: Water-, Ground-, and Rock-type attacks. Super-effective damage varies between games in the series, but in 's case, using any of these attacks against Charmander means you'll inflict 160% damage. To dish out the most in the limited time possible, you'll get a 20% STAB (same-type attack bonus) if a Pokémon of the same type uses any moves.
You should be able to take Dynamax Charmander on solo, but you can always take in at least one other player if you feel like you'll struggle.
Using STAB isn't a must if you're taking on a base-level boss like Charmander, but it may be essential if you only have one suitable counter that can use attacks matching one of its weaknesses. Trainers also need to remember Charmander's larger number of resistances: Fairy, Grass, Ice, Bug, Fire, and Steel
