PC players looking to max out the settings on may need to upgrade their machine before the long-awaited expansion pack releases according to one CD Projekt Red developer. Set to be released on September 26 alongside the free Update 2.0, the Phantom Liberty DLC introduces new gameplay features to Cyberpunk 2077 in addition to adding new story content for players to explore.
According to a new Twitter post from Filip Pierściński, the Lead Scene Programmer at Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED, the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC looks set to give players’ PCs a serious workout. In the tweet, Pierściński recommends that PC players “check conditions of your cooling systems” before installing the expansion, stating that the game will use every bit of CPU power available. According to the post, players can expect 90% CPU utilization even on 8-core systems.

First revealed in September 2022, the Phantom Liberty DLC is a paid expansion pack for Cyberpunk 2077 featuring a story that leans heavily into spy-thriller territory. The expansion is set in a new district of the game’s sprawling, neon-lit Night City and features actor Idris Elba playing FIA agent Solomon Reed, as well as the return of Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand. Phantom Liberty is the only full expansion planned for Cyberpunk 2077.
