Nintendo Switch 2 Has New Joy-Con Buttons, Improved Kickstand, and More – Rumour

By all accounts, the Nintendo Switch 2 is still almost a year away, but potential new details on the console have been filtering through on a consistent basis, courtesy of a what’s been an unbroken stream of leaks. Another leak has now emerged, with Mobopad, a manufacturer of Switch accessories, posting alleged new details that it has learned about Nintendo’s next-gen console on Bilibili.

For starters, Mobopad corroborates recent leaks that the Switch 2 will feature new, magnetic Joy-Cons. Specifically, it claims that the Joy-Cons will be electromagnetic, and that the SL and SR buttons on the sides of each Joy-Con will be metallic. The current Switch’s Joy-Cons, meanwhile, will still be supported through Bluetooth, while HD Rumble is still also included courtesy of ALPS dual-axis linear motors.

Interestingly, Mobopad claims that the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons will also feature new, additional buttons. For starters, each Joy-Con will have a new button on the back, below ZL and ZR. Meanwhile, the right Joy-Con will have an additional button below the HOME button. What purpose these new buttons will serve is currently unknown, however.

It’s also claimed that the console will be backward compatible with the current Switch’s physical cartridges (which lines up with previous reports), however, cartridges for Switch 2 games will not fit in the current Switch. Beyond that, the next-gen console will also allegedly feature an improved kickstand, with its design being more similar to the Switch OLED than the base Switch model, while a new damping bracket on the back will also enable a larger range of adjustments.

Mobocap also corroborates previous reports that the Switch 2 will feature an 8-inch LCD screen. It will allegedly support 1080p output, while the dock, which will still have a USB-C port, will support 4K output.
