It’s been reported that the new Doom game will be called Doom: The Dark Ages. It will also be revealed next month at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
Insider Gaming‘s Tom Henderson revealed that the follow-up to Doom Eternal (previously codenamed Year Zero) has been in development for four years. A first glimpse at its heavy metal madness will be coming on June 9, 2024, at Xbox’s show.
Henderson also said that sources described the new Doom game as being set in a medieval-inspired world. That feels very much in keeping with both the codename and the Doom: The Dark Ages title. Having done the space marine in hell thing a fair bit already, being set in a different time period does sound intriguing. The prospect of a new weapon set with that in mind is also enticing.
PS5 players hankering for a new Doom game were left feeling somewhat relieved. An inside source told the site it will not be an Xbox Series X|S exclusive. In fact, it will indeed be coming to Sony’s system.
We’ll know these details on the new Doom game for sure next month at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. There, the company will be keen to put on a good showing after receiving massive criticism for shutting several studios under Bethesda’s banner recently. These include The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks and Dishonored and Prey studio Arkane Austin.
Xbox will be hoping Call of Duty will be a big winner from its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It is heavily rumored that the next entry in the massive shooter series will be on the Game Pass service at launch. It was recently revealed that it will be titled Call of Duty Black Ops 6.
