After much speculation, Warner Bros. announced today that its free-to-play platform fighting game MultiVersus is officially launching on May 28.
As you might recall, the game was launched in Open Beta last year, quickly surpassing 20 million players in the first month. However, developer Player First Games took the Open Beta down in June, promising the game would return at some point in early 2024.
Now, in a fresh developer update video, Game Director and Co-Founder Tony Huynh talked about some of the improvements that MultiVersus players can expect in the full version.
I'm happy to say we'll be adding some really exciting brand new personalities to the roster, along with more stages from worlds we have yet to explore.
We moved to Unreal Engine 5, which will improve the game's visuals and character lighting. So, in other words, Shaggy’s sandwiches have never looked better.
We've rebuilt the game from the ground up to support our new netcode to provide consistent world-class online play so every hit, dodge, and batarang will be delivered with pinpoint accuracy.
There'll be consistent game performance no matter what platform you're playing on. There'll be new attacks and combat mechanics for each character, putting more skill expression in your hands.
One of the things we're most excited to announce is a brand new PvE mode that will offer a new way to play, outside of competitive PvP. This new mode will introduce additional ways of playing with unique rewards.
This is a small glimpse of what we have in store for MultiVersus. We'll be sharing a lot more details in the coming weeks. From all of us at Player First Games and Warner Brothers Games, we cannot wait to play MultiVersus with you on May 28.
The game will be available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X. Full cross-play and cross-progression are supported across all platforms.
