Our Destruction Warlock guide writer, Loozy, offers an early review of the Hellcaller Warlock Hero Talents that mixes in some Affliction flair into the rotation with the addition of Wither, but struggles to capture the essence of Destruction. Where is the Chaos?
Hellcaller is the new Affliction-Destruction Hero Talent pairing in The War Within. Even though these hero talents are shared between two specs, the fact that the Hellcaller tree mainly revolves around a dot, makes it feel slightly more Affliction favored than Destruction. Wither replaces Immolate, which is essentially our only dot and rarely what you would consider the «core class fantasy» ability of Destruction. That being said, some of the interactions with the remainder of our kit could prove to be interesting and strong.
Wither
Wither straight up replaces Immolate, and is on its own not super interesting, but it does become more interesting when we path further down the tree and pick up various notes that add depth to the simple Wither dot. Blackened Soul and Bleakheart Tactics build on Wither becoming a stacking ability that has a bit more depth to it. Wither is also how the cooldown at the bottom of the Hellcaller tree Malevolence gains power, through an added Chaos Bolt interaction. In summary, yes Wither is a very
