Mortal Kombat 1's Invasions mode will feature seasonal stories about iconic characters and what their place is in Fire God Liu Kang's new timeline. It's in this mode that we finally find out where Hanzo Hasashi, the original Scorpion, is. Or at least, one version of him.
Warning, spoilers for Mortal Kombat 1 follow.
For context, Bi-Han's younger brother Kuai Liang is the new Scorpion, meaning that the iconic ninja duo are related this time around. That begs the question of what happened to Hanzo, however, with some speculating that he might take the mantle of Smoke or even be the two's father. That could still be the case, but we do have confirmation that an alternate version of Hanzo will appear in the Invasions mode as Scorpion, scouring the multiverse in search of a reality where his wife Harumi does not die.

Hanzo's backstory is a bleak and tragic one, as he, his wife, and his son Satoshi were killed in the Shirai Ryu massacre committed by the Lin Kuei, i.e. the clan Sub-Zero and the new Scorpion hail from. Hanzo was then reborn as a Revenant, hence the skeletal appearance, and took on the mantle of Scorpion. When scouring the multiverse in search of a world where Harumi lives, he finds Mortal Kombat 1's timeline. Only, she's married to Kuai Liang, a member of the same clan that butchered her across endless realities (thanks, IGN).
The short of it is that Scorpion finds his wife alive and well in the hands of the clan that kills her across the multiverse, wedded to a Lin Kuei version of his own identity, with he himself nowhere to be seen. As if Hanzo's story wasn't depressing enough.
