Wayfinder Announces Atypical Hero, Grendel, With Teaser and Confirmation of Full Anime on the Way

Airship Syndicate teased Wayfinder’s appearance at the Tokyo Game Show, and the team has a new teaser for the next hero on the way, Grendel. His announcement comes alongside some new details, and some more on seasons 1 and 2.

Grendel will come to Wayfinder’s fantasy world next season, and while there’s not a ton of info out just yet about season 2, there are a number of developments to look forward to. 

The teaser itself was made by animator and director Joaquim dos Santos, known for his work as a co-director on Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and for his work on Shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Along with his team, he’s not only making this Wayfinder teaser, but the full anime that is set for later this year. 

Grendel’s Tokyo Game Show teaser is brief, but what we do know is he’ll be a berserker capable of fast and powerfully executed attacks. In a press release about the team’s presentation, Game Director Steve Madureira said, “The idea for Grendel dates back to the start of Wayfinder . We wanted to have a large, menacing ferocious Wayfinder that didn’t fit the mold of a typical hero. He’s also our first non-human character which we know players have been begging for. Tokyo Game Show just made sense as the perfect place to debut Grendel’s anime as Joaquim’s team is inspired and excited by any and all anime”.

We can expect a full reveal for Grendel later, but the taste sets things up as Airship Syndicate continues with its Founder’s seasons and plans for aneventual free to play launch in 2024. Founders season 2 is the next significant step, and in addition to introducing this brand new hero, they're also focusing on improvements to the player experience and continuing to grow the game.
