It’s almost time to swing back to the streets of New York City in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. But, before we do, developer Insomniac Games is encouraging players to download the day one patch.

In an image post made via Twitter, the developer confirms the entire game is present on the disc for physical players, and is fully playable without the need of a patch. But, “for the best experience, we highly encourage physical/disc-based players to download update Version 1.001.002 on launch day — prior to experiencing the opening mission of the game for the first time.”
The studio went on to explain the day one patch — which serves to add “polish to the gold master version” of the game’s physical edition — will be auto-loaded for any digital players who pre-load the game. In addition to polish, the day one patch “improves the opening sections of the game” and adds accessibility options, according to Insomniac.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to continue where its predecessors left off, allowing players to explore an expanded NYC as they fight both new and existing villains such as Venom, Kraven the Hunter, and Lizard. It looks pretty good, judging by our own review from Chris Carter where it received a 9. It is set for release on October 20 exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
