The $199.99 TCL 40 X 5G announced at this year's Mobile World Congress is now available unlocked on Amazon.
For the money, you get a device with pretty good specs, including some things you won't find on a lot of modern phones, like a microSD card slot, a headphone jack, and a charger in the box.
The TCL 40 X 5G has a 6.56-inch screen in a 20:9 aspect ratio with a 90Hz refresh rate, although the 1,612-by-720-pixel resolution is a bit low. This Android 13 device is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700, comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, but that can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 1TB in capacity.
There's also a 5,000mAh battery on board that supports up to 18W fast charging and an 18W charger is in the box along with a USB-C cable. The company says it takes up to two and a half hours to fully charge.
On the back is a triple rear-camera system. There's a 50MP main shooter with autofocus, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth camera. The front-facing camera shoots 8MP pictures and is placed in a dip from the bezel into the top of the display. The front and rear cameras also capture video up to 1080p/30fps.
On the right side is a volume rocker and a power switch/fingerprint sensor. A USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack can be found on the bottom of the TCL 40 X 5G. For wireless connectivity, you get support for Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, but there is no NFC here.
The TCL 40 X 5G seems like an intriguing proposition for the price. If you're still looking for an Android phone on a budget, check out our picks for the best cheap phones.
