Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was released in September of 2020, and unlike the “HD” re-releases, 1+2 garnered a degree of critical acclaim. It managed to recapture the lightning in the bottle of the original two releases, and wouldn’t you know it: they’re still extremely good games. Well, the two-pack release is coming back in a new format, as a listing for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 just popped up on Steam.
With a release date of October 3, it’ll also launch with a Digital Deluxe Edition, which comes with the following junk: “The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the complete Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Game, ‘The Ripper’ skater from Powell-Peralta, unique retro outfits for Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero and Rodney Mullen, and unique retro content for the Create-A-Skater mode.” Vicarious Visions and Iron Galaxy are both listed as the developers for this version.
More 1 + 2 out and about is a good thing! But there’s still some unfinished business if we’re just talking old-school Tony Hawk re-releases.
This is an older photo of my Tony Hawk collection, but I don’t need to tell you how much I love the series, and how sad it’s been to see it get to this point. Somehow, Activision brought the reputation of the franchise back from its dirt nap with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, and come to find out, there was a potential rework of Tony Hawk 3 and 4 in play in 2020. Well fast-forward to two years later, and those plans were killed off according to Tony Hawk himself.
If anything, 3 + 4 would be a more interesting overall release than 1 + 2. 3 is generally liked, has a killer soundtrack, and some of the most interesting level layouts in the series. 4, while not as beloved as 1-3, is often misunderstood, and has plenty of unique
