It’s been a long time coming, but Reverse 1999 has finally arrived on Android across the globe. It launched today on Google Play, and you can grab it right now.
If you haven’t heard of it, Reverse 1999 is a gacha RPG that sees you take on the role of the Timekeeper. You’re able to travel throughout different historic eras, seeking allies.
That’s where the gacha bit comes in. You roll for new units, which you can bring into battle with you. Units, like you, are called ‘Arcanists’, and they each feature strengths and weaknesses in battle.
Broadly, this is a game that focuses on magic rather than huge swords. Your team consists of spellcasters, who use magic to defeat your foes and support your allies.
In terms of time travel, it doesn’t seem to be all historic eras. It primarily focuses on the 20th century, with the 1999 in its name referring to the year before the millennium.
Fashion changed an awful lot during that century, so you can expect to recruit allies in suits fighting alongside those in hoodies and caps. It’s an eclectic mix.
It also reportedly features ‘authentic’ accents, ranging from British to Italian. Hopefully that means period-authentic, and not just the accents in general.
Battles are your usual turn-based affairs, with ultimate moves that you can charge to turn the tide of battle. As you progress, you will level up your units to boost their power.
If you’d like to check out Reverse 1999, grab it right now on Google Play. It’s free to download, though you can expect a bunch of IAPs. It’s a gacha game after all.
