Back in the early '00s, 5,000 Ft. was developing an open-world Daredevil game for the PS2 called The Man Without Fear, taking cues from the Frank Miller comic of the same name. Unfortunately, it was cancelled in 2003, but yesterday, a prototype was finally found.
According to Lost Media Wiki, the plot was inspired by Elektra Lives Again, as the game would open with the news that Kingpin has been assassinated, sparking a war across Hell's Kitchen. The resurrected Elektra was blamed for the killing, but of course, Kingpin wasn't dead. He had faked the entire thing.
In the new prototype discovered by Hidden Place, we get to see Daredevil fighting both Kingpin and Elektra, as well as a string of snapshot cutscenes told through still artwork detailing their past.
Initially, the game was pitched as a low-budget string of episodes exploring Daredevil's most iconic moments across the comics, but when 5,000 Ft caught wind that Sony was developing the Ben Affleck movie, the scope grew much bigger. It became an open-world action game, now aiming to release on Xbox and PC as well.
Sony allegedly demanded it have beat 'em-up combat and a grinding mechanic similar to Tony Hawk, constantly clashing with Marvel over what the game should be. Microsoft was much more laid back.
Over the course of its development, the game changed direction, dropping the open world to become a linear third-person brawler. Meanwhile, in the studio, there were allegations of drug abuse and missed deadlines, with the game ultimately being delayed to Summer 2003. It was nearly finished by the time it was shuttered, but Marvel allegedly refused to approve it because it believed the game leaned too much into Sony's ideas.
