IDW's groundbreaking limited series, TMNT: The Last Ronin, was published between 2020 and 2022 and told the story of the last of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michelangelo, as he embarked on a quest to avenge his three fallen brothers, Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael. Hailed for taking the Turtles back to their grittier roots, The Last Ronin also set the stage for a new generation of turtles, whose adventures will take place in the time after the end of The Last Ronin.
Next week sees the publication of the first issue of eagerly-awaited sequel The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution. Set more than a decade later, New York City is sliding into decline. It's time, then, for the new TMNT to step up and try and bring some peace to the streets. But who's who in the new line-up?
Meet Odyn, Yi, Moja, and Uno, the four new turtles, who are the heirs to the legacy of the original gang. With Splinter long dead, they're being raised by April O'Neil and her daughter Casey-Marie (named after her dad, Casey Jones).
A mix of brothers (Odyn and Uno) and sisters (Yi and Moja), the four new ninja siblings are the creations of original TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman and Last Ronin artist Ben Bishop, both of whom are returning for the new series, alongside the other members of that book's creative team, co-writer Tom Waltz, artists Esau Escorza and Isaac Escorza, colorist Luis Antonio Delgado, and letterer Shawn Lee.
The original turtles were all famously named after Italian renaissance painters. Likewise, the new gang share a theme - their names all mean "one" in different languages: Odyn (Russian), Yi (Chinese), Moja (Swahili), and Uno (Spanish).
We've already caught a few glimpses of the new TMNT in action in this year's The Last Ronin: The Lost Years, which was mostly a flashback to the original turtles. You'll be able to see the new team really strut their stuff for the first time in TMNT: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution #1, which is published by IDW on March 6.
