The dark, Souls-like twist on the story of Pinocchio, Lies of P, has once again resurfaced, this time with a brand new trailer at IGN Fan Fest this week, which you can watch above. And at the end of the trailer, we've got a narrowed release window at last: it's coming out this August.
The bulk of this trailer focused on the unsettling monsters of Lies of P, which in this trailer feature strange combinations of mechanized puppet creatures with weird, slimy-looking, Lovecraftian horrors. There's also a lot of footage of what seems to be the Blue Fairy, a creature who serves as a guide to Pinocchio in the original story but who, given the sinister plot of Lies of P, may not be entirely trustworthy this time.
With this, we've now seen most of the main cast members people associate with the traditional (or Disney) Pinocchio story, including Geppetto and a companion that may or may not be a nod to Jiminy Cricket. But it's still a mystery how much this will deviate from what we know about the little wooden boy, who largely didn't have to fight off any Lovecraftian horrors in his original tale.
We've seen a lot of Lies of P's Souls-like combat now though, as well as it's "lie" system where choices to lie or not, as well as how to lie, in different situations will impact the story.
Lies of P is coming out in August for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. You can check out all the rest of the news from IGN FanFest, including spotlights on Street Fighter 6, HBO's The Last of Us, and Diablo 4, right here.
