Layoffs hit Embracer’s New World Interactive
New World Interactive has become the latest studio owned by Embracer Group to suffer a round of layoffs.
In a statement issued to PC Gamer, Embracer’s Saber Interactive division confirmed that an unspecified number of jobs at the studio had been impacted by “restructuring changes”.
Embracer acquired Insurgency: Sandstorm developer New World Interactive through Saber in 2020. At the time, it employed 40 people at its Denver, US headquarters and 35 developers at a studio in Calgary, Canada.
“Saber can confirm there have been restructuring changes involving our New World Interactive subsidiary,” a spokesperson said. “This reorganization has unfortunately resulted in layoffs at the studio.
“We are working to fill existing open roles within Saber with individuals affected by these changes wherever feasible and we will be providing severance packages to those employees impacted.”
Embracer announced in June that it was implementing a restructuring programme which would involve the closure of studios and the cancellation of some projects.
It has since shut studios like Saints Row developer Volition and Campfire Cabal, while others have reportedly been put up for sale, such as Borderlands maker Gearbox, and more face closure, like TimeSplitters studio Free Radical Design.
Embracer has made over 900 layoffs since the restructuring plan was put in motion, with the cuts impacting studios including Crystal Dynamics, Beamdog, Zen Studios and Fishlabs.
