From today, January 1st, NBA 2K22 is no longer available for sale and the online servers for those who own the game have been switched off permanently. The game was released in September 2021, and follows 2Ks pattern to switch off servers for its NBA 2K games a couple of years after the initial release.
In a statement, that was first released in August and amended in November, 2K said, “It is time for NBA 2K22 to be discontinued as of December 31, 2023. From January 1, 2024 this game will no longer be available for purchase. If you already own the game you will still be able to redownload and play offline modes. After this date, you will no longer be able to play multiplayer games or access any online game modes. MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available, and it will no longer be possible to earn Virtual Currency (VC). While you will still be able to enjoy Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA, any features that require a connection to 2K servers will be unavailable. This includes multiplayer, Online Leagues, and community sharing. We thank you for being a part of our community and hope you continue to enjoy NBA 2K!”
NBA 2K22 was available for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch initially. It was followed by an edition called NBA 2K22 Arcade which was available on Apple Arcade and Android devices. It is likely that later this year we will learn when the servers for NBA 2K23 will be shutdown, which will probably be around the same time next year.
