Amid all the hype for The Super Mario Bros. Movie these past few weeks, you may well have forgotten the plumber's long-time rival Sonic the Hedgehog already has two pretty successful movies of his own. So successful that Paramount has already greenlit a third film and a spinoff series for Knuckles. The show has now started filming and the first details about it have been revealed, detailing that it will revolve around Knuckles training Wade Whipple.
If you're struggling to place who exactly Wade Whipple is, he's the Green Hills police officer who is effectively second in command after Donut Lord, Sorry, Tom. According to the show's official logline (thanks, Variety) Knuckles “agrees to train Wade as his protege and teach him the ways of the echidna warrior”. Well, if he's going to be staying on Earth with Sonic and Tails, he needs something to do.

The show will seemingly just be called Knuckles (because why not?) and filming for it started this week in London. Along with the details regarding who will be in the show shared by Variety, director Jeff Fowler shared an image of a clapperboard with a Knuckles hat hanging on it, further confirming production on the show has begun. Fowler, who directed both Sonic movies, will direct the pilot episode of the show and is an executive producer on the whole series.
Along with Wade Whipple actor Adam Pally, Idris Elba will also return to continue voicing Knuckles. Ted Lasso's Ellie Taylor will also be joining the show, as will Rory McCann who is best known for his time as The Hound in Game of Thrones.
