Sonic the Hedgehog is now a successful movie franchise as well as a gaming one, with two big silver screen outings for SEGA's mascot landing big at the box office. Things are far from finishing there, though — we know a third film is heading our way, and a spin-off TV series all about Knuckles has also previously been announced. Speaking of which, that latter project is now spinning into production.
Confirming the news on the official Sonic Twitter, work has officially begun on the show:
As reported by Variety, Idris Elba will return to voice the titular echidna. He'll be joined by Adam Pally, who plays recurring character Wade Whipple in the films and in Knuckles' TV show. Other confirmed talent includes Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, and Ellie Taylor.
The series will take place between the events of the second and third Sonic movies, but little is known about what it will entail. We do know that Knuckles «agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior», according to Paramount.
