Paramount has announced the cast of its upcoming Knuckles series.
The show, which will be available on the Paramount+ streaming service, is a spin-off of the studio’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies.
It was already known that Idris Elba would reprise his role as Knuckles’ voice actor, but Paramount has now confirmed (via Variety) some of the live-action stars who’ll also be appearing in the show.
Adam Pally, who played police officer Wade Whipple in both movies, will return to star in Knuckles and will, according to Paramount, play a major role in the show.
Paramount’s official plot synopsis says the series, which takes place between the Sonic 2 and 3 movies, will follow Knuckles as he “agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior”.
The show will also star Edi Patterson (Knives Out), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up) and UK comedian Ellie Taylor in recurring roles.
Guest stars will include Rory McCann (who played The Hound in Game of Thrones) and Tika Sumpter, who will reprise her role as Maddie from the Sonic movies.
According to Variety, production has now started on the series in London, with Jeff Fowler – who directed both Sonic movies – in the director’s chair for the pilot episode. Fowler will also executive produce the entire series.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to arrive in cinemas on December 20, 2024, and will likely see Shadow the Hedgehog introduced to the series.
After redesigning the title character following huge backlash to its first trailer, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was ultimately a big success, grossing $319 million worldwide – a figure that could have been higher had COVID lockdowns not started while it was still in cinemas.
