In the U.S., Google's main app to manage finances and pay contactless is Google Pay and not Google Wallet. It always struck me as an odd choice because the rest of the world is using Google Wallet, but not the people in the U.S. Well, that is going to change soon as the company has announced the transition.
Google has announced that it is looking to simplify the payment apps in the U.S., and in order ot make sure that this amplification works the way Google intends, the company is shutting down the Google Pay app on 4th June, later this year. The company recommends that you shift over to Google Wallet, which is going to deliver similar features.
To make sure that the users understand what the changes are, Google has outlined some basic things that are going to happen to Google Pay.
What's strange is that Google has announced that things are not going to change for users in India and Singapore. Both will continue to use Google Pay, and the company will even “continue to build for the unique needs in those countries.”
