Gamescom, the world’s largest video games convention, officially begins Wednesday, Aug. 23 in Cologne, Germany. But the festivities start virtually on Tuesday, with a two-hour Opening Night Live streaming presentation hosted by The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest emcee Geoff Keighley. This year’s ONL stream starts at 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT and can be seen at The Game Awards’ YouTube and Twitch channels.
Expect “lots of games,” Keighley says. Officially, that will include new previews of survival horror game Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment and action role-playing game Black Myth: Wukong from Game Science. Viewers who tune in to Gamescom ONL are likely to also see more from Fort Solis, the sci-fi thriller revealed at last year’s Summer Game Fest. The acting talent from Fort Solis will appear on stage, possibly with a new trailer for their game.
In addition to trailer and gameplay reveals, viewers can also expect talks with “prominent developers and creators,” Gamescom organizers say.
Last year’s Gamescom ONL was an eclectic show; Keighley secured game reveals like New Tales from the Borderlands, the new Lords of the Fallen, Wyrdsong, and Dune: Awakening. ONL 2022 was also home to new trailers for Sonic Frontiers, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Callisto Protocol, as well as reveals of the PlayStation DualSense Edge controller, a Pokémon car, and Hideo Kojima’s podcast.
ONL will stream live on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT/7 p.m. BST/8 p.m. CEST. Check your time zone to see when the Gamescom 2023 livestream starts in your neck of the woods.
Keighley hasn’t announced yet how long this year’s show will be, but previous iterations of Opening Night Live have run about two hours.
